OXYGENIC is an independent grassroots venue on the coast in Whitley Bay with two bars, a daytime café bar, an event space for live music, art and dance, with dedicated studio spaces for creativity and wellbeing.

Part social venue, part creative ecosystem, and part well-being spaces.

Oxygenic literally means producing oxygen. We adopted the name because it reflects our belief that people, creativity, culture and wellbeing can expand when they’re given the oxygen they need: space, freedom, opportunity and connection.

We are a small family business with backgrounds in food, art, music, creative and therapeutic spaces, who grew up, worked and still live on the coast.

Whitley Bay has been our home for a long time and we have always loved the more diverse and creative part of town our building is located at. We were also a bit tired of heading into Newcastle or Ouseburn for something a bit more cultural, so we literally put our money where our mouth was and rebuilt OXYGENIC into what we hope people will want to be part of.

With an indie, community-focused and multidisciplinary DNA, OXYGENIC brings together music, art, creativity, wellbeing and culture under one roof. Arranged across two floors, the venue includes a relaxed social bar, covered outdoor terrace, hidden live music room, artist studios and dedicated wellbeing spaces. Each area has its own character, allowing the venue to change naturally from a daytime social and creative space into a chilled out bar, energetic music and arts venue by night.

No. Our front bar and terrace are open for walk-in drinks, and during the day the space shifts into our café bar with pop-ups, collaborations and changing events.

Some of our favourite times in OXYGENIC have happened with no event planned at all. Just people walking in, grabbing a drink, enjoying the music and energy the space brings.

Absolutely. We’ve hosted birthdays, DJ takeovers, live music, art launches, pop ups and all kinds of ideas that didn’t fit neatly into a category.

The studios are part of the wider OXYGENIC ecosystem. A space for creating, workshops and experiences that need a slower, more focused energy.

Somewhere between a creative studio, gathering space and a space for deeper exploration, with room for more reflective and therapeutic experiences too.

For the upstairs studios and ticketed events, yes.

But walk-ins are part of the rhythm here. Our front bar, terrace and café are always open for people dropping in and seeing where things lead.
